Corps Holding Missouri River Hearing In Pierre

Bookmark and Share

Officials expect a large crowd in Pierre on Wednesday when the Army Corps of Engineers holds a hearing on its annual Missouri River operating plan.

The corps is holding meetings in several cities along the river. Many of them dealt with flooding earlier this year after record water releases from dams.

Among those testifying Wednesday is Gov. Dennis Daugaard. He says that the corps needs to be ready to make changes to the plan if there is more snow than expected.

North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple has asked the corps to increase Lake Sakakawea water releases this fall to make room for more water in the spring, but a top corps official said in Bismarck on Tuesday night that the agency won't do that because of risks downstream.
