Advertising to Success

On a day-to-day basis you may have seen Carrie Ammermann’s work, and never knew the artist behind these major advertisements. For this Minnesota native, there is no such thing as a red light when it comes to success…and now students can get an inside glimpse of some of her art work…one of which is a play on words. Lindsay Twa is the director for the art gallery at Augustana College and says Carrrie’s work is a great example of a fine arts background.
"What's so special is it brings a fellow alumni back so she can teach and inspire students,” explains Twa.
Some of her work on display dates back to her college days...such as these Thermos Ads...but according to Lindsay a lot has changed since then.
"She has moved on from being just a graphic designer to being an art director,” mentions Twa.
As an art director you're not just at your computer with photo shop, Carrie also has to choose everything from the photographers to the models and set. Her latest designs for Sorel are featured in vogue. The theme is to make practical boots fashionable for every season...no matter the weather. Not all of her campaigns make it out to the public; such as this add for Haaggen Dazs ice cream.
"I think it really encouraged students that they can come from a small school or region and make it big in whatever their goals are,” says Lindsay.
