The president of Dakota State University is leaving after eight years at the helm of the Madison school.
Doug Knowlton has accepted a position as vice chancellor for academic and student affairs for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.
He says he will start his new duties in February, overseeing and coordinating programs and activities at seven university campuses and 24 two-year colleges in Minnesota. They serve about 250,000 students.
Knowlton has overseen record enrollments at DSU, which now has about 3,100 students. He also has overseen major renovation projects, an expansion in research, a doubling in the school's master's programs and its first doctoral program.
The state Board of Regents expects a new president to be in place by next July 1.
