South Dakota Senator John Thune is throwing his support behind former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential race. Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa Romney gladly accepted the endorsement of Thune, who is considered a rising star in the Republican Party. Thune, who weighed a presidential bid of his own this year, believes Romney is the best candidate to unseat President Barack Obama.
“I decided to come out in the past; I've always endorsed presidential nominees sometimes earlier than this. I figured with the Iowa caucuses coming up now was a good time to get out there.” Said Thune.
I asked if Romney’s business background play a part in his decision?
“It did, his experience turning failed businesses around turning the Olympics around turning state of Massachusetts around all point to a leadership will help solve problems and fix things and right now we need someone who can fix things.” Said Thune.
Romney, who was recently in Sioux Falls to speak at the Chamber of Commerce dinner, has named Thune to co-chair his National Advisory Committee. We pressed Thune about the possibility of a Romney/Thune ticket in 2012.
"Ha, I'm not holding my breath on that. If and when the time comes for him, he'll have plenty of capable people" Said Thune.
