Flooding along the Missouri River this past summer led to a record number of visitors to the Gavins Point Dam area in southeastern South Dakota.
The Army Corps of Engineers says nearly 45,000 people visited the Lewis and Clark Visitor Center, its busiest season ever.
Park Ranger Karla Zeutenhorst says that most people who visited the area came to see the record water releases from the dam. She says visitor center traffic in June was up 160 percent over the year. Some members of the biologist staff were forced to help with traffic and crowd control.
