South Dakota wildlife officials are considering a bobcat hunting season east of the Missouri River.
A bobcat season is held west of the Missouri but it is illegal to possess the animal east of the river, even if it was killed by a car or some other means.
Yankton County Conservation Officer Sam Schelhaas says officials are studying whether there is a stable population of bobcats in the region, and what type of hunting season might be allowed. He says hunting likely would be restricted to counties along the river, though nothing has been finalized.
Game, Fish and Parks officials were holding a forum Thursday night in Yankton to get feedback from the public. An earlier meeting in Springfield drew about 50 people.
