New Easy Way To Renew Vehicle Registration

No lines, no waiting, and it's open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
"If you have ever been down to the courthouse to get to renew your vehicle, it's not the most convenient process. You have to park and wait in line,” said Daren Miller, the area supervisor for Get N Go gas stations.
Sioux Falls now has two self-service terminals for people to renew the registry for their vehicle. The kiosks, located at the HyVee on 49th and Louise as well as the Get N Go on 10th and Arrowhead, are not much bigger than a standard ATM machine.
All you need is a valid South Dakota driver's license and identification card; then the touch screen guides you through the process. Renewal tags and vehicle registration are dispensed directly from the machine.
"This way they can actually stop on their way while they are getting gas, they can renew their registrations if they are expired,” said Debra Hillmer, director of the Division Of Motor Vehicles for South Dakota.
Although both kiosks are located in Minnehaha County, you can be from anywhere in South Dakota in order to get your registrations at the kiosk.
"If you happen to be here on a weekend to shop or go to a sports event, and you realize your plates are expired, you can come here and register,” said Hillmer. “The fees go back to the county in which you reside so the county gets what they desperately need which is the revenue; and we get people registered.”
The DMV already has the self-service terminals in Rapid City and Pierre, but the convenience factor led them to implement the service in Sioux Falls. People can register 90 days prior to the end of their current registration or 30 days after.
“It's quick, it's easy, and we think it's going to be great for the state of South Dakota and the citizens of this state,” said Hillmer.
Avoiding the hassle and embracing convenience.
If you use the self-service terminal, there is a $2 convenience fee per vehicle assessed.
