Veteran Leader: Alex Feeney, Augustana

Bookmark and Share

The Augustana women have been very successful this season, and they can attribute a lot of their good fortune to just having players that love playing together.

"I think at times I've been real happy with the fact that there is some pretty good chemistry and it shows on the court," Head Coach Dave Krauth says, "But when it really comes down to it, sometimes you need players that can make plays."

And one of those players is Forward Alex Feeney.

"She gives us some of the things that we want in a veteran," Krauth says, "We're a fairly young team and she's one of our veterans and has really had a nice season."

That might be a little bit of an understatement. The junior from Bismark, North Dakota, has been named NSIC Player of the Week two times in the last three weeks and had five double-doubles coming into this past weekend's games.

"Alex is just a real solid player and a hardworking kid that has improved every year." Krauth says.

That improvement has come from a drive to be better.

"Expanding my game was my big goal this year," Feeney says, "Try to put the ball on the floor and just try to do some different things so I'm not guarded as easily."

"I think one of the things that she does is critiques herself and figures out, 'Hey these are things that I know I could do better' and works on during the offseason or even during the year." Krauth says.

Now, Augie's vying for a conference championship and Feeney thinks they can get it done, thanks to that team chemistry.

"We have what it takes," Feeney says, "I don't like making predictions, but since I've been here this is the most fun I've had, playing with this group of kids."
