VERMILLION, S.D. – University of South Dakota senior guard, Charlie Westbrook, was named The Summit League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.  Westbrook tied his career-high with 32 points versus IUPUI on Thursday and followed with 18 points on Saturday versus the league’s top defensive team in Western Illinois.  It was the first weekly honor for the Coyotes this season and first in the Summit League for the Coyotes.

Westbrook, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., went a career-best 12 of 18 from the field versus IUPUI leading the Coyotes to an 88-78 win Thursday.  He also scored 32 points in a 76-57 win at UMKC Jan. 7.  The two 32-point performances tie him for 42nd all-time in top scoring performances in school history.  Westbrook went 2 of 3 from beyond the arc and 6 of 8 from the line with six rebounds, which tied his season-high, along with six assists, four steals and two blocks.  On Saturday, he followed with 18 points and a season-high eight rebounds while playing a career-high 40 minutes.

For the week, Westbrook averaged 25 points on 18 of 32 from the field (.563), 4 of 8 from beyond the arc, 10 of 14 from the line (.714), 7.0 rebounds (14), 3.0 assists (6), two blocks and six steals.

Westbrook also was recognized by Andy Katz of ESPN.com in his Weekly Watch under the section More Performances that Wowed Us for his efforts against IUPUI Thursday http://espn.go.com/ncb/notebook/_/page/notebookweeklywatch1207/week-7.

Westbrook garnered two Player of the Week honors last season for the Coyotes in the Great West Conference.
