February is American heart month, and to celebrate, Wednesday on KDLT News Today, we looked at some yummy foods that are also heart healthy.
Sanford Dietitian Teresa Beach, and Heart Vascular Coordinator, Sarah Olson showed is Wednesday morning how being sweet to your heart doesn't have to tasteless and gave us a preview of a heart healthy dining event taking place on Thursday.
Teresa highlighted that strawberries are a great dessert and are also very heart healthy because of their high levels of antioxidants. A great way to enjoy them as a dessert is to dip them in chocolate. Teresa said that six strawberries dipped in chocolate or only 120 calories, making them a nice, delicious snack.
She also highlighted that wine is heart healthy due to the flavonoids that are in the skins of the grape that enter the wine through pressing.
Many other heart healthy recipes will be shared and sampled at the "Be Sweet To Your Heart" event at Tre Lounge February, 2. The event starts at 7 pm and admission is $15. Reservations are required.
