The Wagner girls basketball team is undefeated and doesn't show signs of slowing down thanks in part to the leadership of senior Devon Brecke. That's why she's our Karl's TV and Appliance Athlete of the Week.
"Devon's a great player," Wagner Girls Basketball Coach Mike Koupal says, "She makes her teammates better, she's always looking to distribute the ball. She does well."
That's what makes Brecke such an irreplaceable part of her team. She's a quiet leader that knows how to run the floor.
"She's a good court manager," Koupal says, "Another coach on the floor is a way to look at it."
"[Koupal] has told me before I'm not neccesarily a vocal leader," Brecke says, "But I'm a leader by example so I kind of get things moving on and off the floor."
Koupal also thinks Brecke knows when she needs to take charge and take a game over.
"She can score when she needs to score," Koupal says, "Great at putting in shots at the end with the game on the line. Just an overall great player."
A great player that would probably put fear into Koupal if circumstances were different.
"I'm glad she's on my team and I don't have to coach against her." Koupal says.
Next year, the guard will take her talents to Northern State to play basketball for the Wolves and she's hoping she can continue to develop her game at the college level.
"I'm really excited," Brecke says, "It'll be fun to push myself to be a better player and I think I can do it."
But right now, all Brecke cares about is getting her team a state championship.
"It'd be awesome to make it in my last year," Brecke says, "Go out with a bang. It would be cool."
