South Dakota's senators share disappointment in Pres. Obama's funding proposal for the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System.
Earlier this week, Obama released his budget for FY13, which includes $4.5 million for the pipeline project. It's considerably more than what was budgeted for the current fiscal year, but both congressmen agree it isn't enough.
"There's no way that $4 million or $5 million a year can come anywhere close to putting a dent in completing this project,” said Sen. John Thune (R-SD). “It's another major disappointment."
"It's up to the House and Senate to get this thing taken care of,” said Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD).
Lewis and Cark officials say the federal government owes about $194 million for the project, and, at the current funding rate, it may never be finished.
