INDIANAPOLIS – The Southwest Minnesota State University men’s basketball team will make its third ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament earning the No. 4 seed in the Central Region Tournament. SMSU will take on fifth-seeded MSU Moorhead next Sunday.

The Central Region is made up of teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).

Colorado School of Mines earned the No. 1 seed and the right to host the eight-team region tournament, which will be held March 10-13 in Golden, Colo.

Southwest Minnesota State (19-10) won its first-ever NSIC Tournament Championship with a 76-72 win over its regional opponent MSU Moorhead earlier tonight. SMSU has made two NCAA Tournament appearances in 2001 and 2009, and advanced to the Elite Eight both years.

Other first-round pairings include No. 1 Colorado School of Mines against No. 8 Augustana, No. 2 Metro State against No. 7 Adams State and No. 3 Bemidji State against No. 6 St. Cloud State.

Game times and ticket prices will be announced on Monday.

The winner of the Central Region tournament will advance to the Elite Eight in Highland Height, Ky.
