With spring in the Dakotas comes load restrictions on roads.
The weight restrictions guard against damage to roads made susceptible by the spring thaw. They're lifted when roadbeds have stabilized enough to handle normal traffic.
North Dakota transportation officials say load restrictions are in effect on all state and U.S. highways effective Wednesday morning. Many highways in South Dakota will be affected beginning Thursday morning.
Some cities also have put restrictions in place, including West Fargo in North Dakota and Aberdeen in South Dakota.
