Residents of South Dakota's Jerauld County are deciding the fate of a proposed property tax increase.
The measure before voters Tuesday was an eight-year opt-out of the state property tax freeze that would generate about $450,000 in additional tax revenue per year, for a total of $3.6 million.
County commissioners in December approved the opt-out to generate money for bridge and road repairs, but opponents referred it to a public vote.
