SD Casino Robbery Suspect Sentenced

Bookmark and Share

A Rapid City mother of three accused of using a knife and a machete in two casino robbery attempts has been sentenced to 12 ½ years in prison.

Twenty-six-year-old Julia Peters apologized during her Tuesday sentencing. She was accused of robbing the Market Square Casino and trying to rob a Happy Jacks in a four-day span last July, then dying her hair to briefly elude capture.

Peters pleaded guilty earlier to a robbery charge. She said she was on drugs during the robbery attempts, and employees testified Tuesday that Peters told them she needed money for her family and for rent.

The judge ordered Peters to get treatment in prison for a methamphetamine addiction and to pay back about $600 she stole. She'll be eligible for parole in six years.
