Big Hitter: Theresa McMahon, Augustana

This season didn't start out the way Augustana utility player Theresa McMahon had really planned.
"I didn't get to play this fall because I was injured," McMahon says, "So kind of carried over from that just kinda gettin my confidence back."
A broken toe kept the junior sidelined in the fall and that led to some rust in the spring, but as of late, she's found her swing again.
"To come home and play like she has and really just lead us through these couple of games has been awesome." Augustana Pitcher Ashley Meyer said, "I'm so happy for her."
Just last week McMahon had a couple of big hits to give Augie a couple of wins, the first being a walkoff homer on Wednesday against SMSU and the second being a two-RBI knock that ended up being the difference maker in Ashley Meyer's no-hit win over USF on Thursday.
"It feels good," McMahon says, "It feels good that my hits can help lead the team into a rally and just pick everybody up and get everybody going, because hitting's definitely contagious."
"She's back," Augustana Head Softball Coach Gretta Melsted says, "And playing she's like T-Mac again and playing like the kid who last year tied our single season home run record at 16 and we're just looking forward to her continuing to take off like that."
Melsted says it's not so much McMahon's power, but her sweet swing that's made her such a dangerous hitter. It's also the reason the Hartford native is trying to make another run at Augie's single season home run mark.
"She's got one of the nicest swings I've ever coached," Melsted says, "And one of the nicest swings I've ever seen in my coaching career. She definitely can continue to improve and she can shatter that single season record."
And if she does shatter that record, there's a good chance McMahon and Augustana will finish the season the way they want, with a win.
