FORMER SKYFORCE CENTER GREG STIEMSMA IS ONE OF THE FEEL-GOOD STORIES IN THE NBA THIS YEAR... IRONICALLY WHEN HE GOT THE CALL TO JOIN BOSTON IN CAMP, DOC RIVERS DIDN'T HAVE BIG PLANS FOR THE SHOT-BLOCKING SPECIALIST...
Doc Rivers, Celtics Coach says: "We decided 3 days before camp that we needed another body...not a guy who was gonna make the team, We just needed another body to get through camp and after a couple of days we were looking around and thinking maybe this guy's good enough to play on our team and he's proven that..."
INDEED HE HAS...WITH INJURIES HE'S RISEN TO SECOND ON THE DEPTH CHART BEHIND KEVIN GARNETT...AND HIS HUSTLE, SOLID PLAY AND GREAT ABILITY TO BLOCK SHOTS HAS MADE HIM A FAVORITE WITH HIS TEAMMATES TOO...
Kevin Garnett, Celtics Center says:"He's stepped in and taken over the opportunity greatly. I'm proud of him and I hope Danny and the organization or somebody in our league gives him a nice contract and some security because he's earned it."
Greg Stiemsma, Celtics Rookie says:"I just try and focus on the little things and do the little things to help us win and it always feels better when we're winning games..."
THEN IT'S FEELING REALLY GOOD OF LATE BECAUSE THE CELTICS HAVE MOVED INTO FIRST PLACE SINCE THE STEAMER HAS GOTTEN MORE MINUTES... HIS EFFORT IS THE BIG REASON WHY THEY LOVE HIM IN BOSTON...
Cornbread Maxwell, Celtics Announcer says:"I think he knows he belongs and if he doesn't make a place in Boston I think he's opened eyes to other people that he'll be in this league for a long time...">
