MARSHALL, Minn. - Augustana secured 2-1 and 12-10 wins in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader sweep of Southwest Minnesota State Wednesday.

Augustana improves to 17-10 (12-4 NSIC), while SMSU drops to 16-11 (6-6 NSIC).

David Borchardt had Augustana's only RBI in Game 1, hitting a solo home run in the top of the first inning.  Derek Hansen and Marcus O'Neill each had two hits.

Hansen also contributed on the mound, producing 6.0 shutout innings and striking out 11 batters.  He improved his record to 4-3.

Derek Quame (0.1 inning) and Zach Weinandt (0.2 inning) finished the final inning.  Quame gave up Augustana's only run of the game, while Weinandt retained Augustana's 2-1 lead for his third save of the season.

Brian Ness drove in SMSU's only run of the game, and Alex Alvarez (2-2) took the loss after a 6.2-inning effort in which he gave up two runs on seven hits.

After Borchardt's home run in the top of the first, neither team scored until the final frame.  O'Neill and Brendan Phillips each singled for the Vikings.  Phillips managed to score on O'Neill's single after SMSU's left fielder made a lazy throw to second base.

SMSU threatened in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases and scoring on a sacrifice fly.  However, Weinandt got Adam Thygesen looking to end the game.

The Vikings held an 8-0 lead after four innings in Game 2, but SMSU scored 10 runs in the final five innings in a comeback bid that fell short.

Brian Voigt blasted a home run and finished 1 for 5 with two RBIs, Phillips went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Jake Kurth went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.

Casey Jacobson (2-2) worked 5.0 innings and did not allow an earned run in his winning effort.  Four Viking hurlers appeared in relief; Voigt tossed the final 1.2 innings--allowing just one hit and striking out three--to collect his second save of 2012.

Aaron Johnson (2-3) gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits and was tagged with the loss.  Tyler Flattum went 2 for 5 with a pair of RBIs to lead the Mustangs.

Six hits, including a home run from Voigt and a double from Kurth, between the second and third innings gave the Vikings a quick 6-0 lead.

Augustana pushed its advantage to 8-0 in the fourth, plating runs on a Mustang error and getting an RBI double from Hansen.

Nate Hewes had a sacrifice fly and Phillips drew a walk with the bases loaded to add two more runs in the fifth.

The Mustangs would get their offense going in the bottom of the inning, slapping two hits and capitalizing on two Augustana errors to punch in a pair of runs.

Brian Knight's sacrifice fly in the sixth put the Vikings ahead 11-2.  SMSU scored a run in the bottom of the frame.

Another sacrifice fly--this one for Borchardt--scored Augustana's final run of the game in the top of the seventh.

From there, SMSU exploded for four runs in the seventh and three in the eighth to cut the deficit to 12-10.  Neither team scored in the ninth.

The wins avenged a pair of early season non-conference losses to the Mustangs in the Metrodome.

The Vikings are at Bemidji State on Saturday and Sunday for a four-game series.
