's record-tying performance on the mound against Minnesota, Crookston on April 6 is garnering national attention. The right-handed hurler, who fanned 17 batters against the Golden Eagles, was recently named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Pitcher of the Week and placed on the National College Baseball Hall of Fame's weekly National All-Star Lineup.
Hansen, a junior from Fergus Falls, Minn., tied an Augustana school record for strikeouts in a 2-0, eight inning win over UMC. Hansen's 17 strikeouts tied Clayton Kopple's mark set in 1971 in a 3-2 win over the University of South Dakota. Hansen, who is now 3-3, put together a one hitter to go along with his record-tying outing.
The effort also earned Hansen Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week and NCBWA Central Region Pitcher of the Week nods.
Hansen is 5-3 in 2012 and has a 1.12 ERA and 75 strikeouts. He is also leading the nation in strikeouts per nine-inning game with 14.38.
Augustana (21-12) will face the University of Sioux Falls (8-24) on Saturday and Sunday in a four-game series. Saturday's doubleheader is at Harmodon Park, while Sunday's twinbill is at Ronken Field.
