Women's Tennis: Augie Number One Seed In Central Regional

Bookmark and Share

INDIANAPOLIS - Augustana is the top seed in the Central Region and will host No. 4-seeded Colorado Mesa in the opening round of the NCAA Championships Saturday or Sunday in Sioux Falls, S.D. Weather permitting, the Vikings will host the Mavericks outdoors at Huether Tennis Centre. Sioux Empire Fitness will be used as an alternate hosting site if the dual needs to be moved indoors.

Nebraska-Kearney earned the second seed in the Central Region and will host No. 3-seeded Western New Mexico.

The 48-team tournament is single elimination and will be played at 15 regional sites. Two teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the final site in Louisville, Ky.

Augustana has made two NCAA tournament appearances (2010 and 2011) and is 2-2 all-time in NCAA postseason competition.  Last season, the Vikings advanced to the round of 16--the furthest in program history.

Augustana is 18-3 and finished Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action 10-0 to earn the regular-season conference crown for the third-straight season. The Vikings won the conference tournament last Sunday for the second season in a row.
