CSB: Eight Augustana Players Receive NSIC Postseason Awards

– Augustana's Matley Jones, Theresa McMahon, Ashley Meyer, Jenelle Trautmann, Elizabeth Murray, Lindsay Spanton, Chelsi Winskowski and Jenny Brown all received post-season awards from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the league announced Wednesday.
Trautmann is the 2012 NSIC Freshman of the Year and is also an All-NSIC first-team pick. Joining her on the first team is Jones, McMahon and Meyer. Murray, Spanton and Winskowski where chosen to the All-NSIC second team, while Brown was named to the NSIC Gold Glove Team.
Jones, a freshman shortstop from Slayton, Minn., is batting a team-best .419 in 2012. She has eight doubles, seven home runs and 33 RBIs. Jones has struck out just eight times in 105 at bats and has swiped three bases on the year.
McMahon is a senior from Hartford, S.D., and is leading the Vikings with 13 home runs this season. Her eight bombs in conference games is tops in the league, and her .800 slugging percentage is also the best in the NSIC. McMahon is batting .335 and has logged 41 RBIs. She was named NSIC Player of the Week on April 17 and was an all-conference second-team choice a year ago.
A senior pitcher, Meyer has a team-leading 22-3 record in 2012. The Rapid City, S.D., native has been in the circle for 147.0 innings for a 1.43 ERA. The 10 wins Meyer has picked up in NSIC play is tied for second in the league. She has 108 strike outs on the season, while walking only 18 batters. Meyer was the NSIC Rookie of the Year in 2010 and an All-NSIC first-team selection in 2010 and 2011.
Trautmann, redshirt freshman utility player, is batting .400 with a team-best 48 RBIs and is 19-5 in the circle. The Hastings, Minn., native has belted 12 home runs and 13 doubles and stole five bases. Her pitching line includes 115 strikeouts and 2.27 ERA in 129.2 innings pitched.
A senior from Cottage Grove, Minn., Murray is batting .327 with 11 doubles, nine home runs and 35 RBIs. The catcher has stolen four bases this season. She was also an All-NSIC pick in 2010 and 2011.
Spanton is a sophomore from Apple Valley, Minn., and is leading the team in doubles with 17. The 11 doubles she smashed during NSIC games is second in the league. The third baseman is batting .357 with 55 hits and five home runs. Spanton was an all-conference second-team pick in 2011.
Winskowski, a junior from Elk River, Minn., has racked up a team-leading 16 stolen bases this season. She is batting .372 with 12 doubles and three home runs. This is the outfielder’s first appearance on the all-conference team.
Brown, a junior from Omaha, Neb., has been outstanding in left field this season. She had just two errors on 55 chances for a .964 fielding percentage. Brown is batting .261.
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament is in Rochester, Minn., this weekend. Augustana has the No. 2 seed and will face No. 7-seeded Northern State at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
