The top dental officer for the U.S. Public Health Service is the keynote speaker at the state's first Native American Oral Health Summit Thursday in Rapid City.
Rear Admiral William Bailey, a dentist who serves as an assistant surgeon general of the U.S., will discuss improving dental health among Native Americans at the one-day summit. Federal, state, tribal and private sectors are coming together at the summit to learn about the oral health needs on South Dakota's reservations, which experience disparities in oral health.
The seminar is sponsored by Delta Dental of South Dakota and the American Dental Association. It's being hosted by the South Dakota Oral Health Coalition's Native American Work Group.
