Hartzell Out As Stampede Head Coach

Sioux Falls, S.D.---The Sioux Falls Stampede announced today the contract of head coach and general manager Kevin Hartzell will not be renewed for the upcoming 2012-13 season. The club will begin the process of evaluating candidates and selecting a new head coach immediately.

 

“It was a very difficult decision, but we have decided to go in a different direction,” stated Stampede President and CEO Tom Garrity. “We believe now is the time to bring in a new voice to lead the team. We would like to thank coach Hartzell for what he has established here in Sioux Falls and we wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors,” added Garrity.

 

Hartzell compiled a record of 224-152-44 in seven seasons with the Herd.  Prior to his time in Sioux Falls, Hartzell coached in the Minnesota High School Elite League as well as the St. Paul Vulcans of the USHL (1983-89). 

 

The Stampede plan to have a new coach in place prior to the USHL Entry Draft on Tuesday, May 22ndFans will be able to follow the draft live on www.ushl.com and through the Stampede website at www.sfstampede.com. Tryout camp for the 2012-13 season is scheduled for the first weekend in June at Ridder Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
