Chamberlain plans to demolish its vacant City Hall and build a $1.7 million community center to replace it.
The city will apply for $500,000 in state grant money to complete the funding and begin construction.
The old three-story City Hall dates to the 1920s. The building is not accessible to the handicapped and has had issues with mold and asbestos. City offices were moved to a new building in 2004.
The city hopes to have the community center finished by June 2013. About 2,400 people live in Chamberlain.
