It's a dig in the dirt towards a brighter future as construction on Sanford's Pentagon sports facility begins.
Nate White, Chief Operating Officer at Sanford says "It's a chance for kids to expose themselves to competition from a region. We're going to have kids coming from all over for this. It gives kids in Sioux Falls a chance to have access to that type of exposure and do it while their keeping fit."
The 19-million dollar facility is located in Northwest Sioux Falls near the airport. It will house 9 basketball courts. The space will be able to convert into 11 volleyball courts, set the stage for wrestling events as well as host other community activities.
Kenny Anderson, a Sioux Falls City Council Member says, "This is a great opportunity for us to step up and create something that will draw people from different states thousands of miles away just to come here and participate in an area that has long been a farm field."
The Pentagon will be the main focus of the entire Sanford Sport Center which will cover more than 162 acres once completed, but work on the state-of-the-art facility has already begun. Work on the field house is already underway. Sanford hopes will host more than one million people a year.
Anderson says, "I foresee that we look at this place in ten years and say 'wow, what a great thing we did.'"
So with shovels in the ground and floor plans ready to go- the Pentagon will reach new heights in no time.
