Voters Face Tough Decision For Mitchell Mayor

Bookmark and Share

There are several city and countywide elections are held on Tuesday, including one in Mitchell.

After six years as mayor, a replacement for Lou Sebert will be announced Tuesday night. Kathy Feeldy has been a voter in Mitchell for 43 years and said choosing between six candidates for mayor is a decision she's never had to face.

"I had to stand there to make my final decision when I marked in my circle," said Feeldy.

Feeldy decided not to disclose her vote, but with more than a handful of hopefuls to choose from, she said she hopes the one who comes out on top is ready to tackle some tough issues.

"One of the issues we have been dealing with for a very long time is the event center, how we're going to handle that issue and how we're going to finance that issue." said Feeldy.

But Mayor Lou Sebert offered this advice to his replacement, focus on the system in place before making any drastic changes.

"Look at what you've got first and plan ahead, not just barge ahead,” said Sebert.

Now that his time in office is almost up, he said he stays modest behind his six years of service to the town.

"I don't know if I want to be remembered for any specific thing, I just come in here and do a job and to satisfy the people," said Sebert.

The people of Mitchell have faced a tough decision on who should represent their town, but Feeldy said she'll remain optimistic.

"Change is usually for the best,” said Feeldy.

The six candidates running for mayor in Mitchell are: Ken Tracy, John Claggett, Tara Volesky, Roger Haley, Jerald Toomey and Becky Haslam.

Voters have until seven p.m. on Tuesday to vote. The new mayor will be sworn in July 2.
