Brown Races Into Huset's Record Book

Bookmark and Share

It took him 14 years to do.

"Lead by Number 22, Gary Brown Jr, Who takes a Victory Lap."

Something that won't soon be forgotten by family, friends and fans of number 22. Gary Brown Jr. raced his way into Huset's Speedway history, coming from behind to break the track record for the number of street stock wins.

"It feels great and any win feels good but this one to get it over with and now we can just concentrate on the rest of the season. They all feel good, just this one seems to get more attention," said Brown.

Being the first to see 51 checkered flags....He's now being compared to many drivers that he looked up to as a kid. Including Marty Barber, the man who *now holds the *previous record.

"It is an honor. I grew up watching these people and hearing about them...just having my name next to those guys in the win categories, it feels pretty special," said Brown.

The reason for his success? Brown says his crew and the fans who come each and every race to cheer him on.And that night was no exception.

"It was, big crowd out here- I always brag that I have the best fans in the world," said Brown.

But it's no mistake that Brown is in the winners circle. Like most, racing is in his blood.

"It is something that I just grew up with. My dad was in a race and that's where I got my start. My brother just followed him and I just followed those two," said Brown.

Brown got behind the wheel in 1998. And his brother got behind the number 22,  now the brains behind the horsepower.

"My brother works with my car now... I love tinkering with cars. I love working on them about as much as I like racing them," said Brown.

With big shoes to fill, Brown says you haven't seen the last of his mean, green, racing machine.

"As long as I'm having fun that's the main thing. As long as I keep having fun"
