Authorities in eastern South Dakota continue their manhunt for a Florida prisoner who escaped from a transport van at a gas station Saturday.
Officials say 31-year-old Oscar Antonio Herrera-Menjivar was one of 13 prisoners being taken to a Nebraska facility. When the prison transport van stopped at a gas station on Interstate 90 near Spencer around 2 a.m. Saturday, Herrera-Menjivar was able to escape and fled to the south.
Law officers say they have not received any credible sightings of Herrera-Menjivar as of Monday morning. They're advising the public to not pick up any hitchhikers in the Spencer area and to report any suspicious activity.
Officials describe Herrera-Menjivar as standing 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. They say he may be wearing an orange prison shirt, or he may be wearing a blue T-shirt, shorts, and black running shoes.
