Storm Release All But 2 Players on Roster

Bookmark and Share

Sioux Falls Storm owner Todd Tryon has released all but 2 players (O'Keefe and Williams) on his roster after conducting exit interviews with all the players and coaches on Monday and Tuesday. While this seems like a dramatic move, keep in mind that the team no longer owns the rights to it's players for an extended period of time like in the past and every player had only a 1-year contract. Every member of the team would have become a free agent as of December 31st. That's when the Storm would then have to start all over again re-signing players for next year.

The big question is whether Tryon will remain as owner of the team and Riggs as head coach. It was a trying season off the field for both despite the perfect record. Those questions should be answered in the near future. Although according to Riggs, if Tryon returns as owner, character will play a key role in rebuilding the roster. And there's certainly a chance that many of the same players could and will return. The team has until July 31st to commit to the Indoor Football League again for 2013.
