Gordon Becomes a 3rd Hawkeye Swimmer...After Baseball

Bookmark and Share

"If you wanted a competitor A guy thats going to give you everything he's got. Jack Gordon is you're guy," said Jack's coach, Chris Janisch.

Jack Gordon is at home on the mound for Sioux Falls East but soon he'll be trading in his high socks and glove for goggles and a swim cap for the Iowa swim team.

But, he's not the first Gordon to make a splash for the Hawkeyes.

"My brother, Pual has done great things at Iowa and he's definately set a great foundation for me to follow," said Jack Gordon.

Paul Gordon just wrapped up his collegite career and competed in the olympic trials in Omaha.

"It's fun to watch him and be such a big fan. But, at the same time know, I have a chance to do that myself," said Jack Gordon.

But, Jack Gordon, even with baseball on his mind this summer, looks to set a few records of his own in Iowa.

"It's going to be encouraging to see those records up on the record board everyday at practice and see P Gordon next to it," said Jack Gordon.

"Those record up there will drive him, but on the other hand it will be friendly." said Rick Gordon, Jack's Father.

Jack has been in the pool all sumer and he's says the time in the water helps his with baseball.

"After the last few weeks I've been able to play a little bit better and hit the ball a little better. So, hopefully theres a connection there," said Jack Gordon.

"I think everytime he goes out there he feels like, whether or not we're playing the new york yankees or sioux falls west, that he feels like he's got a chance," said Janisch.

While Jack Gordon still has games left to play on the diamond, come this fall, his focus will narrow from two sports to one.
