SD Business Owners Face Tax Evasion Charges

Three South Dakota business owners face 45 federal counts related to tax evasion and failure to pay taxes.

They're identified as 70-year-old Jerome Adrian of Sioux Falls, 45-year-old Jared Adrian of Sioux Falls, and 76-year-old Raymond Ehrman of Freeman. The trio pleaded not guilty to all charges in federal court Friday.

Jerome Adrian is charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States, 12 counts of willful failure to collect or pay over tax, two counts of evasion of payment, five counts of tax evasion, four counts of willful failure to file tax returns, and one count of false tax refund.

Jared Adrian is charged with 15 counts of willful failure to collect or pay over tax and five counts of willful failure to file tax return.

Ehrman is charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States.

If convicted of willful failure to file tax return, the maximum penalty is one year in prison and/or a $25,000 fine. The maximum penalty for each of the other counts is five years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.
