Busch To Play College Baseball At Kansas State

As the State 'A' Legion Baseball Tournament nears, Landon Busch is one athlete that won't go unnoticed.
Playing high school and Legion ball for the Bandits, Busch had Division-One schools such as Minnesota, South Dakota State and Nebraska eager to sign him. But Busch had his eye on a different school and signed early on.

"Kansas State called me really early and they talked to me often. I felt comfortable with the coach, I met the players. I felt when I went down there that I was the right fit," said Landon Busch.

With an Earned Run Average of 2.23 and an opponent batting average of .194, it is no surprise that this south paw has received much attention. And that's not all he's capable of, Busch has a batting average of over 400, making him a key ingredient aiding to Brookings success.

"I have three pitches I try to work in evenly. I try to get ahead of the fast ball and hopefully that will get me a ground ball or two and get an out," said Busch.

"He's put in the time and really sets the tone for our team. I think his competitiveness and work ethic is what has helped him get the most out of his talent," said Coach Rob Hirrschoff.

Busch is taking small steps every day to fulfill his dream.

"I want to win the state championship, get better everyday. Other than that, I will take it one year, one day at a time and see how that goes," said Busch.

It's gone pretty well for the kid who placed 3rd at the National Pitch, Hit and Run competition as a 9 year old. Who knows, maybe down the road we'll get to see him as a Wildcat at the College World Series in Omaha.
