USF Picked 8th Overall, 5th in NSIC South Div.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (August 7, 2012) – The University of Sioux Falls was selected eighth overall in the 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Football Coaches' Poll released by the league office Tuesday morning. The cougars received 116 points overall and was selected fourth in the South Division with 23 points, including one first place vote.

Minnesota Duluth was picked as the overall and north division preseason favorite for 2012. The Bulldogs received nine first place votes and amassed 217 points, six more than St. Cloud State (211), who was selected second. Minnesota State (197) was voted third overall.

St. Cloud State boasts the North Division’s Offensive and Defensive Preseason Player of the Year in quarterback Phillip Klaphake and defensive back Marvin Matthews.  

Winona State running back Rayon Simmons was chosen as the South Division Offensive Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive season while Augustana’s linebacker Austin Luecke was picked as the South Division Defensive Preseason Player of the Year.

USF linebacker Nick Bonte and quarterback Taylor Perkins were each tabbed as 2012 NSIC players to watch.

The Cougars finished 5-4 in 2011, which marked the program's eighteenth-straight season with a .500 or better overall record.

USF begins its season Thursday, Aug. 30, when they travel to St. Cloud, Minn. to face 2011 NSIC Co-Champions, St. Cloud State University.
