As a a sophomore Max Donohue was a standout for the 2012 O'Gorman golf team.
And this summer he didn't blend in with the pack either.
Donohue won one National American Junior Golf Association qualifier and finished in the top five at a national tournament.
"It takes lots of practice and lots of hard work," said Donohue.
And this year, as he preps for his junior year in high school, he hopes to lead his team to back-to-back championships.
"Well, I really want our team to do well. Especially, since the high expectations from last year with us winning state," said Donohue.
But, Donohue knows, he and the Knights won't run away with the state title this year.
"We got to play out hearts out. And we can't take anything for granted cause there are definitely a lot of teams out there that will come and get us if we're not there on the right day. So, we got to play our best golf every time we go out there," said Donohue.
Finishing seventh at states last fall; Donohue has high hopes for himself this year as well.
"For me I just really want to play as good as I can and whether that's being top five or winning. It just depends how everything plays out."
Only halfway through his high school career, Max Donohue looks ahead to the future.
"I definitely want to play college golf and hopefully pursue a pro career if I'm good enough."
But, Donohue knows he's got to stick to the basics.
"Not so much the long game cause the long game will fall into place. You just got to be able to get it up and down at the end of the day."
A young golfer making a splash in the state and nationally, hoping to lead his team to another state title.
