Amazing Heat Wednesday

Bookmark and Share

If you thought Tuesday was hot, all you had to do was wait till Wednesday and you were treated to one sizzling hot afternoon.  Temperatures reached dangerous levels with highs climbing into the triple digits through much of South Dakota and Nebraska.  Records were shattered from the Black Hills to the I-29 corridor.  In fact, both Winner and Chamberlain cracked 112°, just one degree shy of the all time record high in Chamberlain and three degrees shy in Winner.  Even Sioux Falls, Sioux City, and Huron topped 100 degrees, which happens far less often then our counterparts to the west.  The only up side to the day was that humidity levels tanked during the afternoon which means that the heat was far more bearable. You weren’t dealing with both the heat and humidity that can often make it feel much warmer then it really is.  But with humidity levels so low, it means dangerous fire conditions; welcome to the downside.  For the moment, no reports of any fires but humidity levels will be low the rest of the week, so please don’t burn anything, throw cigarettes out the car window, or do anything else that could spark a fire because once it starts, it likely wont stop for a while.  For details on highs today, look to the left.  For more on your forecast for the rest of this heat wave, check out the pictures below.  Stay cool!!
