The scoreboard that hung over the basketball court of the Sioux Falls Arena was auctioned off today at a city surplus auction.
The scoreboard was purchased in 1897 and hung over the court for almost 25 years.
It was taken down after two new score boards took its place.
The old scoreboard offered information on which period was being played, the player’s number and total of fouls. The new LED ones offer video replay, graphics, animation, commercials and statistics.
The scoreboard was in numerous pieces as it went to be auctioned, and auctioneers were hoping to sell it that way.
"What I'm assuming what will probably happen with this after the purchase and the removal is it will be scrapped out. You never know though. He may be a seller and sell it to a second party,” said Terry Brick of T. Brick Auction.
The scoreboard went for $175 as the whole set.
