You might notice the nose guard from the O’Gorman Knights’ football team powering through opposing teams offensive line. But, for Michael Reichelt his passion isn’t football. It’s power lifting.
Football initially brought Michael to the gym.
“I don't know. It just turned over really fast and now I'm playing football to be stronger for power lifting,” said Reichelt.
Reichelt finished 2nd in his weight class in the world championships in Poland.
“It just doesn't feel real, almost,” said Reichelt.
Reichelt preformed in the squat, bench press, and dead lift.
Ed Whiting, his coach in the gym and the football field, says Reichelt has got the stuff to be great.
“You don't have to beg him to get in (the gym). You have to beg him to leave,” said Whiting. “As an individual the best word I can describe him with, he's driven.”
With only one lifter in his weight and age class stronger than him, Reichelt feels there’s still room for improvement.
“I've done a lot of the things I've wanted to do, so far. As far as winning nationals, going to worlds, and I guess, the next step is to win worlds,” said Reichelt
The O'Gorman senior pushes himself hard on gridiron and when pumping iron, hoping to one day be the best in the world.
