There was an unusual case before the South Dakota Supreme Court on Tuesday.
It involved millionaire couple Kevin and Carmen Schieffer who has different ideas about how their daughter with Down syndrome would receive the best care.
Carmen wants to move with her daughter to New York. Kevin wants his daughter to stay in Sioux Falls. When they divorced, the court denied Carmen Schieffer’s request to move to New York City. Under a prenuptial agreement Kevin had to pay Carmen almost $4,000,000.
Carmen is appealing the fact that she is only receiving $2,000 a month for child support. Her attorney feels that some family laws don’t take their large income into consideration.
It will be a few months before a decision is made in any South Dakota Supreme Court case.
