A judge says a 14-year-old Osage boy suspected of killing his mother will be classified as a youthful offender.
Judge Gregg Rosenbladt on Wednesday waived the boy's case to district court under the youthful offender status. That means he would stay under the supervision of the judicial system past his 18th birthday. If he remained a juvenile offender, he would be freed at the age of 18.
The boy was 13 when he allegedly shot his mother to death in March. Authorities say he may have tried to sexually abuse her.
No trial date has been set. The teen remains in a Waterloo detention center.
