State Senator Takes Legal Action Against Gant

A state senator is taking legal action against Secretary of State Jason Gant.

Senator Stan Adelstein of Rapid City wants Gant to publish a “con” statement with “constitutional amendment P” when it appears on the November ballot. Adelstein says state law requires the secretary of state to publish a “pro” and a “con” statement for each ballot issue.
 
Adelstein accuses Gant of deliberately excluding a con statement. Gant says he believes he followed the law, and the next step is now with the courts.
 
A hearing is scheduled for Friday in Pierre.
