Along with their dogs, those young and old took a march down Phillips Avenue Saturday morning to celebrate the White Cane Law. The march raised awareness about the law that helps make the streets safer for the visually impaired.
The event's coordinator, Anna Perry says that while the law exists in every state, many people are unaware.
She said, "We want to raise awareness of the law so that people yield for people that have white canes and are trying to cross the street and also so that all pedestrians are safer."
Perry says that the law states that if you see somebody with a white cane extend their cane into the street, they are trying to cross. By law, they have the right away.
