SD Murderer Denied Life Sentence Reduction

The South Dakota Board of Pardons and Paroles has denied a convicted murderer's request to have his life prison sentence reduced.

Fifty-nine-year-old Larry Faller was sentenced in 1973 for killing a Woonsocket woman and trying to kill her husband. He wanted his life sentence reduced so he eventually could seek parole. Faller told the board during a hearing Thursday that he was sorry for what he did and felt regret on a daily basis.

The hearing was a continuation of one in July at which a number of people objected to Faller's request. Attorney Jason Shanks on Thursday told the board that the victims' families opposed Faller's request.

The board voted unanimously to reject the request.
