A Seattle-based birdseed company plans to invest several million dollars in a business in the northeastern South Dakota town of Roscoe.
Golden Harvest is refurbishing an old grain elevator to use as a storage and production site for black oil sunflower seeds. CEO Dave Whitley says the project is expected to take about 15 months. The business has already started taking deliveries from farmers in South Dakota and North Dakota.
Global Harvest packages birdseed under its own label as well as for other private-label companies. It also has a facility in the South Dakota town of Harrold, as well as in Washington state, Colorado and Pennsylvania.
The Roscoe facility employees three people and will have five workers when the manufacturing plant is operational.
