Grant To Enhance Emergency Response At St. Mary's

A grant of nearly $340,000 from the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust is being used to enhance emergency operations and response at St. Marty's Healthcare Center.
The grant will be used to fund implementation of eEmergency, which is part of the Avera eCARE.
Avera's Jay Weems says the system links St. Mary's to emergency trained physicians at Avera in Sioux Falls via video equipment. eEmergency is used in 65 hospitals in a five-state region.
Officials say the system can be used for mass trauma cases, heart attacks, strokes and other critical conditions.
The trust's Walter Panzirer says the new technology's enhances but does not replace the emergency staff at St. Mary's.
The technology is expected to be operational by February.
