Bookmark and Share

Two separate prostitution investigations net 18 arrests in Minnehaha County.
16 men are charged with soliciting sex, while two others also face more serious charges of statutory rape.

All stem from ads placed on a web site called backpage.com It has a section for escorts. On Wednesday KDLT News found 15 ads from women offering their time and services in South Dakota. The arrests came after a Sioux Falls police investigation intersected with an ongoing federal investigation. Once that happened several agencies became involved and they cooperated to make the arrests.

Those charged were tracked down using phone numbers and text messages from phones police confiscated from two underage prostitutes. The men are from Sioux Falls, Brandon, Lennox and Volga.

They have all bonded out of jail, but are scheduled to go to court November 14th and 15th.
States Attorney Aaron McGowan says the all the charges stem from sex trafficking that took place in Minnehaha County. Some of the solicitation cases date back to 2011.

"Any commercial sexual activity in this community will not be tolerated at any level, and anyone who supports it at any level with be held accountable,” said McGowan

Also two men were arrested in a separate investigation. Neal Eugene Castle and Nickolaus McCracken are charged with statutory rape. Court documents obtained by KDLT News show detectives believe the two men knew the prostitutes they were hiring were underage, but did not care. The charges stem from phone records of underage prostitutes involved in a 2009 case in Tea.
