A woman accused of hitting a South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper with her vehicle during a chase in Sioux Falls and critically injuring him has been released from a hospital and taken into custody.
Prosecutors say 25-year-old Rachel Coleman's bond has been set at $500,000 cash only. Coleman was shot by officers in the Oct. 17 incident that put 34-year-old Trooper Andrew Steen in the hospital, where he underwent successful surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. Steen remains hospitalized.
Coleman was released from the hospital Wednesday. She appeared before a judge in Lincoln County at a bond hearing Thursday on charges including attempted murder and drunken driving.
Coleman's next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 13.
