Police say the 19-year-old man killed in a fatal head-on collision in eastern Sioux Falls Friday evening was from Valley Springs.
Officials say Edward L. Elsberry was driving a 1987 Honda Civic on Highway 11 when the crash occurred around 5 p.m. They say witnesses told them he appeared to be trying to turn onto 18th Street when, for unexplained reasons, the vehicle veered into oncoming traffic.
Elsberry's vehicle crashed head-on into a Pontiac Bonneville driven by 55-year-old Michael Rock of Canton. Rock and his wife were treated at a Sioux Falls hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Elsberry was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers closed the area on Highway 11 for several hours as they worked to reconstruct the scene and determine what happened.
Police say witness reports indicate excessive speed was not a factor.
Officials say both people in the Pontiac were wearing seatbelts. They say they don't believe Elsberry's vehicle had seatbets.
