Vandeberg is the Big Weapon for the Lynx

He is a play maker and just one of the many stars on the Brandon Valley football team.

"I mean it's a great comfort to have an athlete like him. I mean, you know if you put the ball in his vicinity he is going to go up and make a play," said Quarterback Chase Marso.

Wide receiver Matt Vandeberg has been a vital part to the 2012 Lynx season and for a quarterback, it eases the mind.

"He gives you a great margin of error. Just how athletic he is, how skilled he is. Just the work that he puts in, the work that we put into each other," said Marso.

For Matt, he enjoys just being a part of the team and the chase for the state title.

"To be honest, not really playing is the most favorite, best part is being part of this family. Anytime somebody gets down you don't blame anybody, you just get together and make sure you win the next play," said Receiver Matt Vandeberg.

Winning those next plays is key for Vandeberg. Making big plays in big games.

"He makes some outstanding plays and we always talk to those kids, I expect them to make those plays and because they are that type of athlete," said Chad Garrow, Brandon Valley's Head Coach.

"He's just going to go make plays for you and you know that every game. Just give him the ball as much as you can, he's going to go make plays for you," said Marso.

"Matt has a great, has had a great year because he is able to do so much after he catches the ball also with his speed and stuff," said Garrow.

With his athletic attributes, Vanderberg has a verbal commitment to play football at the University of Iowa and play for the Hawkeyes next fall.

"Realizing a dream. I remember freshman year I didn't think I was good enough to go anywhere. My freshman coach pushed me and I was like, "Well okay, let's see what happens," and luckily it paid off," said Vandeberg.

"When you look at the O'Gorman game, and the Lincoln game and the Pierre game, he's come up big in those games and that's what separates a lot of good athletes with great athletes," said Garrow.

"I definitely carry a chip on my shoulder. I want to make sure everyone knows where I'm from. That I'm from Brandon Valley. That I'm from South Dakota," said Vandeberg.

Filled with pride, yet humbled.
