Four Michigan men were killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash near Mellette early Wednesday morning.

Officials with the South Dakota Highway Patrol say the Michigan men were traveling in a 2003 Ford Excursion  that was struck by a semi-truck at the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and SD Highway 20 shortly before 5:45 a.m.

Troopers say the driver of the Excursion was 71-year-old Wesley Frasard of St. Clair Shores, Mich. He was killed in the crash.

Three passengers in the vehicle were also killed. Officials have identified them as 68-year-old Ledger Frasard, Jr. of St. Clair Shores; 77-year-old William Petrocy, also from St. Clair Shores; and 69-year-old Nikolaos Andreopoulos of New Baltimore, Mich.

A fourth passenger, 52-year-old Thomas Thorngate of St. Clair Shores, was taken to an Aberdeen hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Fifty-year-old Doug Carnahan of Bottineau, N.D., was the driver of the semi. He suffered minor injuries.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. They're not releasing any further information about the accident.
